We each took turns toting along a polariod jess managed to snag from a GoodWill for $10 and grandpa’s old rolleiflex on our berry picking escapade. Off the beaten path on our walk to the blue berry trees we came across a grave yard of empty pots and in the middle of it all an almost too perfectly positioned old school chair snuggled up against the base of a willow tree. Here jess sits with his new picture-taking toy around his neck protected from the raging summer sun by the tentacle of branches of the willow tree.
A year ago today my delightfully sweet grandpa passed away. I’ve never been good with words so I searched for a quote that was as demure and simple as he was.
He spake well who said that graves are the footprints of angels. ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Everyday we are reminded of him some how. Whether its when we look at my grandma’s hand and see her wedding band or when we steal a glance at our dad’s face or when I carry around his old rolleiflex. It’s nice to be reminded continuously of something so pure and real.
After my grandpa passed away I learned that he was really into photography. He left behind a Rolleiflex 2.8 that my grandma was kind enough to let me borrow. I was honored to bring it along on my trip to California. I had never shot medium format before and was really excited to see how the pictures would turn out. This one is probably my favorite.
Thanks grandpa for being so cool and artsy. We miss you <3
More hair bows!!
We all have that pair of old jeans we can no longer fit into or we some how managed to get a hole in. If they are too tattered to the point that you’re embarrassed even to give them to goodwill, don’t throw them out! Keep them. Cut them. Make accessories out of them.
